Fresh off the plane from calling his ninth FIFA World Cup, Andy’s guest this week is Andrés Cantor, the legendary Telemundo play-by-play announcer! Hear Andrés talk about his career journey, from his start in broadcasting to how he developed his signature style to his emotional call of Argentina’s World Cup win that went viral and so much more!
Andrés on how he began as a play-by-play announcer: “The first few months, I was learning on the go…Way back in my days, in Argentina, we all listened to the old transistor radio. So I had the music to the play-by-play, mostly of radio announcers. I had no experience whatsoever so I guess I learned the trick of the trade by repetition and doing it… You have to remember that way back then research was very hard to get because there was no internet. There was no Google search… Whenever I did games, I had to go to the international newsstands, and find newspapers from all over the world and clip the information that I needed. So I guess you could say, I’m a self taught play-by-play announcer.”
