In 1999, Joe Dumars played his 1,000th game with the Detroit Pistons. He is one of only eight NBA players to play 1,000 games with the same team. Dumars is one of only 10 players to tally 1,000 games overall. He joined the NBA in 1985 as the 18th overall pick and played shooting guard and point guard. Dumars was known for his defensive skills and is a six-time NBA All-Star. He was the first recipient of the NBA Sportsmanship Award (1996) which was later renamed in his honor. Dumars retired with 16,401 points, 4,612 assists, 2,203 rebounds and 902 steals. After his basketball career, Dumars became the Piston’s president of basketball operations and won Executive of the Year in the 2002-3 season. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
