On this day in 1999, Detroit Pistons shooting guard Joe Dumars scored 18 points and 3 assists in a 107-75 blowout win over the Chicago Bulls. The game helped Dumars become the 10th player in NBA league history to play 1,000 games with the same team and one of eight to play 1,000 games with his only team. The 18th pick in the 1985 NBA Draft, Dumars spent his entire 14-season NBA career with the Detroit Pistons. A great defensive player, Dumars led a stellar career and played a pivotal role in helping the Pistons secure back-to-back NBA titles in 1989 and 1990. Dumars led the Pistons effort in the 1989 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Pistons sweeped the Lakers 4-0, and Dumars was named NBA FInals MVP after averaging 27.3 points and 6 assists. Dumars other accolades include 3x All-NBA Team selections, 4x NBA All-Defensive First Team, NBA Sportsmanship Award 1996, and 6x NBA All-Star. Dumars  was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 and his no. 4 was retired by the Pistons. Today, Dumars is still involved within the league serving as the chief strategic officer for the Sacramento Kings.
