Today in Sports History: April 23

On April 23, 1989, Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played in the final regular-season game of his career, with the Lakers beating the Supersonics 121-117. Kareem recorded an efficient 10 points and six rebounds on five-for-six shooting. The Lakers made it to a third straight NBA Finals appearance during Kareem’s final postseason, but were swept by the Detroit Pistons.
