Today in Sports History: April 27

On April 27, 1998, Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs was named the Rookie of the Year after receiving 113 of a possible 116 votes. Duncan was the first pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, and averaged 21.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.51 blocked shots, while shooting .549 in his incredible first season. Duncan is now considered one of the greatest and most consistent NBA players of all time, and spent his entire 19-season career with the Spurs. Duncan won two NBA MVP Awards, five NBA Championships, three NBA Finals MVP Awards, and was a 10-time All-NBA First Team selection, among countless other distinctions.
