Today in Sports History: April 5

On April 5, 1984, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scored his 22nd point of the night and the 31,420th of his career, passing Wilt Chamberlain for the all-time NBA scoring record—he holds the record to this day, ending his career with 38,387 points. Abdul-Jabbar was one of the best college and professional basketball players of all time, helping lead UCLA to three national titles in college, and his NBA teams to six NBA Championships. Kareem also won a record six NBA MVP Awards and 19 NBA All-Star selections, among many other impressive achievements.
