In 1996, George McCloud attempted his 612th 3-pointer, a then record. He closed out the season with 678 attempts. A little more than 20 years later, James Harden broke McCloud’s record in the 2018-19 season when he attempted 1,023 3-pointers. McCloud was the 7th overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers dropped him after four unimpressive seasons. The Dallas Mavericks signed him in the 1994-95 season. McCloud went on to have a 12 year NBA career; playing 766 games and scoring a total of 6.925 points. He appeared in the 1996 NBA All-Star Weekend Three-point Shootout and has the second-highest total for three-point attempts in an NBA game when he attempted 20 (making 7) during a 1996 New Jersey Nets versus Dallas Mavericks game.
