Today in Sports History: August 29

On August 29, 1987, Nolan Ryan surpassed 200 strikeouts in a season for what was then a record 11th timeā€”he would extend the record to 15 seasons by the end of his career. He would finish the season with 270 strikeouts. Despite finishing his career with MLB records of 5,714 career strikeouts, seven career no-hitters, six 300-strikeout seasons, and many more over his incredible 27-year career, he never pitched a perfect game, nor did he win a Cy Young Award. Ryan would only appear in and win one World Series in his long career, but he was still a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
