Today in Sports History: December 10

On December 10, 1971, the New York Mets traded away pitcher Nolan Ryan, along with three other players, for California Angels shortstop Jim Fregosi. Ryan would go on to become an elite, Hall of Fame pitcher, being named to eight All-Star games, leading the league in ERA twice and strikeouts 11 times. Fregosi, on the other hand, was never named to an All-Star game again after making six prior to the trade. Ryan is one of the most well-known pitchers of all-time, and while the trade at the time was thought of as fair, it is now considered one of the worst in Mets history.
