Today in Sports History: December 11

In 1977, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won their first-ever game. Tampa won 33-14 over the New Orleans Saints in their penultimate game of the season. The Buccaneers were added to the NFL roster in 1976 along with the Seattle Seahawks. The team’s first season ended with 14 regular season losses and its second season ended 2-12.

Their December 11 win broke the second-longest losing streak (26 games) in NFL history. The victorious  Buccaneers won their following game but weren’t able to escape their losing record. The team made their first playoffs appearance in 1979 but didn’t make it to the NFC South until they won the Super Bowl in 2002. The Buccaneers are coming off a 2020 championship win, the first in 18 years.
