On December 11, 2000, Alex Rodriguez signed what was then the largest contract in sports history with the Texas Rangers, 10 years and $252 million. Rodriguez spent three years with the Rangers, including an MVP season in his last year, before being traded to the New York Yankees. In 2007, after another MVP award—the third of his career—Rodriguez opted out of his contract, re-signing with the Yankees and breaking his previous record with a 10-year, $275-million contract. His record has since been broken in baseball by Giancarlo Stanton, who signed a 13-year, $325 million contract. The largest contract in any sport is now boxer Canelo Alvarez’s new contract, worth $365 million over 11 fights.
