Today in Sports History: December 21

On December 21, 2009, the New Jersey Devils’ goalkeeper Martin Brodeur broke Terry Sawchuck’s 40-year record with his 104th career shutout. He would finish his career with 125 shutouts, 23 more than second-place Sawchuck. Brodeur set many records during his outstanding career, including most regular season wins, most regular season shutouts, most games played by a goaltender, most career saves, most 30 and 40-win seasons, most postseason shutouts, and many more. Needless to say, Brodeur is one of the best goalkeepers in NHL history.
