Today in Sports History: December 28

On December 28, 2008, the Detroit Lions, long considered one of the worst franchises in NFL history—with the 24th-best winning percentage of all NFL teams, lost to the Green Bay Packers, making them the first team to end a 16-game season with a winless record. The 0-16 season marks the ‘08 Lions as one of the worst teams of all time, led by journeymen quarterbacks Dan Orlovsky and Daunte Culpepper. Despite the horrid season, the Lions got the number one pick in the 2009 draft and selected one of the best quarterbacks in the franchise’s history, Matthew Stafford.
