Today in Sports History: December 6

On December 6, 1995, the Montreal Canadiens traded goaltender Patrick Roy to the Colorado Avalanche. Roy had led the Canadiens to two Stanley Cup Championships and won the Conn Smythe Trophy in both series. WIth Colorado, Roy would help lead his new team to two Stanley Cup Championships as well, winning one Conn Smythe Trophy with the Avalanche. Roy is considered one of the greatest goalies of all time, holding records for most Conn Smythe Trophy wins with three, most NHL playoff games played by a goalie and most NHL playoff wins by a goalie. The Patrick Roy trade is considered one of the worst in NHL history.
