In 1961, the Los Angeles Lakes defeated the Philadelphia Warriors in a hard-won 151-147 victory. Philadelphia’s center, Wilt Chamberlain, set a record-breaking 78 points. The previous record of 71 was held by the Lakers’ Elgin Baylor. Baylor tallied 63 points for the Lakers in the game. Chamberlain would go on to break his one record for most point scored in a game during a New York Knicks matchup in March of the same year.
