In the 37th annual NHL All-Star Game held at the Olympic Saddledome in Calgary, Canada, Mario Lemieux, of the Pittsburgh Penguins, stole the show. He became the first-ever rookie to win the NHL All-Star Game MVP award. His two goals and assist helped lead the Wales Conference to a 6-4 victory over the Campbell Conference.
Lemieux, who would be selected to play in nine more All-Star games throughout his illustrious NHL playing career, wound up winning another All-Star Game MVP award in 1988. Considered one of the greatest hockey players of all-time, Lemieux captured three Hart Memorial Trophies (tied for fourth most of all-time), six Art Ross Trophies (tied for second-most of all-time), and four Ted Lindsay Trophies (tied for second-most of all-time) throughout his 17-year career. He led the Penguins to two consecutive Stanley Cup titles in 1990-91 and 1991-92. Lemieux ranks #11 on the NHL all-time list for total career goals, #12 on the NHL list for total career assists, and #8 on the NHL all-time list for total career points.
As an owner of the Penguins, he has won another three Stanley Cup titles in 2008-09, 2015-16, and 2016-17.
