Today in Sports History: February 13

On February 13, 2000, the starting frontcourt for the Western Conference All-Stars, comprised of 7-footers Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett combined for 70 points and 33 rebounds — with Shaq and Duncan taking home co-MVP honors — to help lead the West to a 137-126 victory over the East in Oakland. Shaq scored 22 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots, while Duncan poured in 24 points and collected 14 rebounds. The two became the third ever duo to share All-Star game MVP awards, joining Bob Pettit and Elgin Baylor from 1959 and John Stockton and Karl Malone, who did it in 1993. Shaq would later become the only player to share the All-Star Game MVP award twice, doing so with his former teammate and legend Kobe Bryant in 2009.
