On this day in 1996, Chicago Bulls superstars Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen teamed up to score 84 points in a 110-102 win against the Indiana Pacers. Jordan scored 44 points and Pippen had 40. The duo become the ninth pair of NBA teammates (and just the sixth in a non-overtime game) to score 40 or more points in the same game. The 1995-96 Bulls season was the winningest in franchise history. The team recorded a 72-10 regular season record, lost only two home games, and won their fourth NBA title. During the 1996 playoffs Jordan averaged 20.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.8 steals. Pippen averaged 16.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.6 steals. The Chicago Bulls maintained a 15-3 playoff record, and defeated the Seattle Supersonics in six games to win the 1996 NBA Finals. The championship marked the Bulls first in their second quest to an eventual three-peat repeat.
