In 1998, Vancouver Canucks Mark Messier became 4th player to score 1,600 career points. Messier finished his 25-year career with 1,756 points and 1,193 assists.

Messier played for both the World Hockey Association and the National Hockey League. He was the last WHA player (Indianapolis Racers and Cincinnati Stingers) to also play for the NHL. Messier began his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers as a left-winger before switching to centre in 1984. He helped the team to their first Stanley Cup before being traded to the New York Rangers in 1991. With the Messier, the Rangers saw their best team record yet and Messier won his second Hart trophy. Messier was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 1997 where he had his worst season to date. Messier finished his NHL career with the New York Rangers and holds the record for most NHL regular season and playoff season games played at 1,992.
