In 1995, Atlanta Hawks’ coach Lenny Wilkens passed the legendary Red Auerbach to become the NBA’s all-time winningest coach. Wilkens racked up 939 career victories when the Hawks beat Washington 112-90. Wilkens is ranked no.2 on the list currently with 1,332 wins. Wilkens coached 30 NBA seasons and had the most success during his eight seasons coaching the Seattle Supersonics. The Supersonics lost in seven games to the Washington Bullets in the 1978 NBA Finals. In the 1979 NBA Finals rematch, Wilkens coached the Sonics to victory in five games helping the team win its first and only NBA championship. Wilkens other coaching accolades include 4x NBA All-Star Game head coach, and NBA Coach of the Year in 1994. Wilkens retired from coaching in 2005.
