The Lakers traded fan-favorite Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat in 2004. In exchange, the Lakers received Caron Butler, Lamar Odom, Brian Cook and a future first-round choice.

With the Lakers, O’Neal had made four Finals appearances in five years. He won three straight Finals MVP awards during the Laker’s historic championship threepeat.

Although this trade marked the end of the contentious Shaq-Kobe era Lakers, O’Neal continued to rack up wins with the Heat. He teamed up with rising star Dwyane Wade and led the Heat to their first-ever championship in 2006. O’Neal was named MVP each of his three seasons with the team and the Heat retired his no. 32 jersey.
