In 1985, American former professional boxer, Larry Holmes, technically knocked out (TKO), American former professional boxer, David Bey, in 10 rounds to win the Heavyweight Boxing Championship title.
Holmes fought from 1973 until 2002. He was a World Heavyweight Champion from 1978 until 1985. His amateur record was 19-3. He won 69 professional fights and lost 6. Holmes also has 44 total knockouts.
Holmes was known for his solid defense and one of the best jabs in the history of boxing. In 1982, ‘The Ring’ magazine named him “Fighter of the Year” and later in his career, Holmes was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2008.
After his boxing career, Holmes moved back home to Easton, Pennsylvania where he was born and raised. He opened multiple businesses throughout the town such as training facilities, office complexes, restaurants, and a nightclub. He continues to be a regular around his hometown and focuses on business.
