On this day in 1962, Philadelphia Warriors Center Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points during his team’s 169-147 win over the New York Knicks. It was a record high for points scored by an NBA player in a single game. Chamberlain shot 36-of-63 from the field and 28-of-32 from the free-throw line; he also grabbed 25 rebounds in the contest. Chamberlain averaged 50.4 points and 25.7 rebounds in the 1961-62 season. The legendary center dominated the league. He is the only player to have averaged 30 points and 20 rebounds throughout the course of his entire NBA career. Chamberlain is a 2x NBA champion and his other accolades include 7x NBA Scoring champion, 11x NBA Rebounding champion, 4x NBA MVP, and 13x NBA All-Star. Chamberlain was inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1979 and his no. 13 is retired by the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Lakers.
