Today in Sports History: March 9

On March 9, 2011, Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love recorded his 52nd straight double-double, breaking Moses Malone’s record for the most consecutive double-doubles since the NBA-ABA merger. In the game, Love led Minnesota to a 101-75 win over the Indiana Pacers, scoring just 16 points but recording 21 rebounds. Love recorded one more double-double during the streak to bring the streak (post-NBA-ABA merger) to an incredible 53 games. During the 2010-11 season, Love averaged 20.2 points per game and led the league with 15.2 rebounds per game. Despite having the record since the NBA-ABA merger, the record for most consecutive double-doubles (and second and third place) pre-merger is held by Wilt Chamberlain, who had 227 in a row.
