Today in Sports History: May 25

On May 25, 1993, the Phoenix Suns’ Charles Barkley was named NBA MVP after leading them to a franchise-record 62-20. The Round Mound of Rebound averaged 25.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game in his first season with the Suns. He also went on to lead the Suns to the NBA finals, where they would lose to Michael Jordan’s Bulls in six games. Barkley was named to five All-NBA First Teams in his career, and won two Olympic Gold Medals as a part of his Hall of Fame career. He is considered one of the greatest players of all time to never win an NBA Title.
