Today in Sports History: May 8

On May 8th, 1988, the Los Angeles Lakers held the Utah Jazz to 8 points in the first quarter in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals. The eight points are the lowest in any first quarter of a game in the NBA Playoffs. The Lakers went into the series with more time off than Utah, and were likely spending their time figuring out how to stop the Jazz offense. The Lakers won the game 110-91, lead by 23 points from James Worthy. The Lakers won the series in 7 games, and went on to defeat the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals.
