When the Miami Heat opened the season with a 105-79 victory over the Orlando Magic in 2000, Pat Riley became the second coach in NBA history to tally over 1,000 regular season victories. 

Riley joined Lenny Wilkens as the only two coaches to surpass 1,000 wins. One of the most successful NBA head coaches and executives, Riley won 5 NBA titles as the Lakers’ head coach, a NBA title as the Miami Heat’s head coach, and 2 NBA titles as Miami Heat team president. As a coach, Riley ranks no.5 in regular-season wins with 1210, and no.2 in playoff wins with 171. Riley is a 3x NBA Coach of the Year and 9x NBA All-Star Game head coach. He is President of the Miami Heat.
