On this day in 1957, Cleveland Browns’ fullback Jim Brown set a club record of 237 rushing yards. Playing against the Los Angeles Rams, Brown’s four touchdowns helped propel Cleveland to a 45-31 victory. Brown’s longest drive of the game was a 69 touchdown, and he had 237 of Cleveland’s 330 rushing yards on the day. Brown’s record was broken in 2009 by Jerome Harrison’s 286 yards rushing game, but Brown still holds the franchise record for rushing yards in a single season (1,863 yards). The legendary fullback played nine seasons in the NFL and is ranked 11th on the NFL rushing yards career leader list (12,312 yards). Brown’s accolades include NFL champion (1984), 8x First-team All-Pro, 3x NFL MVP, and 9x Pro Bowl. Brown was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971 and his no.32 is retired by the Cleveland Browns.
