During a 1996 game, the Washington Redskins defeated the NY Giants 72-41. It was the highest score in NFL history. Both teams put up big numbers, but the Redskins maintained control throughout the game. At halftime, the Redskins were up 31-14 and went into the fourth quarter leading 48-28. Hall of Famer quarterback Sonny Jurgensen, led the Redskins with 145 passing yards and three touchdowns. One of the purest passers of his time, Jurgensen’s 82.62 career passer rating is the highest for any player in the Dead Ball Era. A 5x Pro Bowler, Jurgensen led the Redskins to a mediocre 7-7-0 season. In 2018, the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Los Angeles Rams game fell slightly short (8 points) of eclipsing the scoring record. The Rams defeated the Chiefs, 54-51, and It was the first game in NFL history in which both teams scored over 50.
