David Robinson made his debut for the San Antonio Spurs against the Los Angeles Lakers in 1989. San Antonio won 106-98. Robinson’s NBA debut was delayed two years because of his military commitment, but that didn’t stop him from becoming one of the league’s greatest centers. Robinson won Rookie of the Year after averaging 24.3 points, 12 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 3.9 blocks. The Spurs won 35 more games than the previous season. In his 14 seasons with the Spurs, Robinson helped the team win two NBA championships. In game 6 of the 2003 NBA Finals, Robinson’s last career game, he scored 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to help the Spurs win the championship. Robinson’s other accolades include 10x All-NBA Team selections, NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1992), 8x NBA All-Defensive Team selections, NBA MVP (1995), and 10x NBA All-Star. Robinson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and his no.50 was retired by the San Antonio Spurs.
