On this day in 1961, Philadelphia’s Wilt Chamberlain began a streak of 126 consecutive games with 20 or more points. The streak, included the famous 100-point game against the Knicks and a seven-game span of 50 or more points per game, ended on January 19, 1963. The legendary center dominated in the paint and is the only NBA player to have averaged 30 points and 20 rebounds throughout the course of his entire NBA career. Chamberlain guided the Philadelphia 76ers to their second championship in 1967. In that six game finals series against the San Francisco Warriors, Chamberlain averaged 17.7 ppg and 28.7 rpg. Chamberlain’s other accolades include a second championship with the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers, 7x NBA Scoring champion, 11x NBA Rebounding champion, 4x NBA MVP, and 13x NBA All-Star. Chamberlain was inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1979 and his no.13 was retired by the Warriors, Lakers, and 76ers.
