On October 19, 2004, Curt Schilling pitched seven innings, allowing just one run during the victory in the Red Sox Game 6 victory over the Yankees in the ALCS. The victory forced a Game 7, which the Red Sox would win to advance to the World Series. While it was an impressive performance, it is known best as “The Bloody Sock Game,” as due to an injury to his ankle he bled through his sock, showing how tough he really was.
