Today in Sports History: October 21

On October 21, 1976, the New York Knicks retired their first-ever number, #19, for legendary center Willis Reed. Reed helped lead the Knicks to their only two NBA championships and was named Finals MVP both times. He was also named an All-Star seven times and won the NBA MVP award in 1970. Reed averaged 18.7 points and 12.9 rebounds per game in his career, and was inducted to the Naismith Hall of Fame in 1982.
