Today in Sports History: October 22

On October 22, 2000, Roger Clemens and Mike Piazza, then playing for the Yankees and Mets, respectively, sparked one of the most famous bench-clearing scrums in World Series history when Clemens threw Piazza’s broken bat towards him. This came after Clemens hit Piazza on the head with a pitch during the regular season, and there was clearly bad blood between the two. Despite the benches clearing, no ejections were given after the chaos was sorted out.
