Today in Sports History: October 7

During a 1989 game playoffs game, Ricky Henderson stole a record-breaking eight bases. Henderson spent 25 years in the MLB and is known as one of the league’s best baserunners and leadoff hitters. Henderson was selected by the Oakland Athletics and returned to the team three times over his career. He holds the record for most bases stolen in a single season at 130 in 1982 and far surpassed the record for career steals at 1,406. The Athletics retired his no. 24 jersey and he was inducted into the team hall of fame.
