Today in Sports History: September 13

In 2020, Chicago Cubs pitcher Alec Mills no-hits the Milwaukee Brewers, 12-0 at Miller Park. A sensational game, Mills prevented 27 players from scoring over the course of nine innings. The 16th no-hitter in the Cubs franchise history, Mills threw 74 of 114 pitches for strikes, struck stout five players and walked three. The Kansas City Royals drafted Mills in the 22nd round of the 2012 MLB draft. Mills joined the Cubs in 2018 and he finished the 2020 season with a 5-5 record and a 4.48 ERA in 11 starts. Initially a college walk-on at the University of Tennessee at Martin, Mills started his college career as a relief pitcher. Mills became a starter his junior year finishing the season 4-6 with a 3.94 ERA. In 2016, Mills made his MLB debut. Mills’ record currently stands at 6-6 in the 2021 MLB season.
