Today in Sports History: September 18

On September 18, 1996, legendary pitcher Roger Clemens tied the record for most strikeouts thrown in a game—20—a record set by Clemens himself 10 years earlier. His second 20-strikeout game came during a complete game shutout against the Detroit Tigers, in which he gave up just five hits and no walks. Only two other pitchers have struck out 20 batters in one game, Kerry Wood and Max Scherzer, and Clemens is the only one to have struck out 20 twice. Clemens was an 11-time All-Star, 2-time World Series champion, AL MVP award winner, and an MLB record 7-time Cy Young award winner.
