On September 21, 1991, USA Basketball announced 10 of the 12 players who would be on team USA’s Dream Team in the 1992 Olympics. The players named were Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, and John Stockton. The final two players, Clyde Drexler and Christian Laettner were named closer to the Olympics. This team became the first US Olympic team to feature professional athletes who were in the NBA at the time the Olympics were held. To no surprise considering the immense talent on the team, the Dream Team won the gold medal easily, with no team coming within 30 points.
