On September 4, 1993, Jim Abbott of the New York Yankees threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians. A no-hitter is always a great accomplishment, but there have been so many through the years that the baseball world has become accustomed to seeing a few a year. However, what made Abbott’s no-hitter so legendary was that he was born without a right hand. Abbott both pitched and fielded with his left hand, and while it may seem like a disadvantage that he had only one hand, it rarely was. Despite throwing a no-hitter in 1993, his best season was 1991 for the California Angels where he had a 2.89 ERA and finished third in Cy Young voting.
